Microwave Cart To Pool Center

Share It:
We are members of a pool club and spend the summer stuffing our bags full of towels, snacks, flip flops, sunblock, etc. to take with us. To help us stay organized, I re-purposed a garbage pick microwave cart into a beach/pool command center!

It started like this:

I pulled it out of my neighbor's trash. Yes, it was the same neighbor from whom I saved the credenza/bar. Jim was mortified but I was all like "Go get that and bring it inside or no soup for you!" I knew it would be perfect in my crazy narrow mud room to store and organize our pool junk.
I bought some silver toned tubs in for $3 at Target to hold flip flops, lotion, bug repellent, sunglasses, etc. I found the large tote on top at Home Goods and it is perfect for beach towels.  And lastly, I used some rope and hot glue to make a basket from an old coffee box from Sam's Club to hold some water bottles, snacks, etc!  I screwed in a couple of hooks for the girl's beach bags and there you go!

I jazzed it up with some paint first. I taped off some lines and painted on navy stripes. I then used acrylic paint on the top  in colors to mimic driftwood. I am so happy with how it turned out.

The girls are responsible for packing their bags themselves (of course, Ellie still needs help) and they know to unpack and place their bags on the hooks when we come back. It makes it so much easier on me!

I have a mini tutorial on making the faux driftwood coming up so stay tuned!  Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy.

  1. Hi Jenny - I'm looking at the hot mess of goggles, towels and sunscreen all over my porch and am now on a mission to find something like this in one of my neighbor's trash to make over. Thanks for the inspiration! Hugs, Holly

  2. Why would anyone throw that table out? It's great! And what great use you've made of it. Cute tote bag too!

  3. Super cute idea! Love how this can save so much time and mess!
