How To Paint Your Countertops

Share It:
A few weeks ago I showed you my newly painted countertops. It was an affordable and budget friendly alternative to new counters and we are so happy with the results. I have gotten so much great email from you all about the process and so I'm sharing how I painted my countertops to resemble faux stone or laminate!

By the way, you can see my self-adhesive tile back splash HERE!

17 Fantastic Fireplace Makeovers on my Hometalk Clipboard!

Share It:

One of my favorite DIY/design/home website is Hometalk. It's a great community filled with bloggers, contractors, gardeners and landscapers, designers, or just anyone who is interested in home and garden. You can share projects, ask questions, answer questions, and clip your favorite projects onto boards so you can find them again when you need them!  I am addicted to this clip feature now and I set up a couple of boards for projects I like, gardening tips, etc. I thought I would share my collection of fireplace makeovers

Fall Bunting, Craigslist score

Share It:
I am so in the mood to decorate for fall!  Aren't you?  I got into the spirit today by making the easiest fall bunting ever. A few triangles of drop cloth, some twine, gold acrylic paint, and letter stencils were the supplies I used and it took me all of 20 minutes to make!

Painted Faux Stone Countertops

I did it!  I painted my laminate countertops to resemble stone!  And I love the results. Does it look like granite?  Nah. Nothing looks like granite except granite. Does it look like brand new laminate that isn't as fugly as the 80s stuff I started with?  Heck yeah!

Fire Extinguisher PSA

Share It:
I am deviating from the usual content tonight because I wanted to talk about something serious. The importance of having fire extinguishers! What was planned to be a fun, special day for us almost turned tragic and it happened in a split second!  While preparing for a party, we had a fire in our oven that escalated quickly but thankfully, we were able to extinguish it with a fire extinguisher before serious damage could occur. I am SO grateful!

WhiteWashed Fireplace Mini Tutorial

Share It:
If you've been around here lately, you know I recently whitewashed my fireplace and I promised some more details about it so here they are! It took a lot of coaxing for Jim to agree but finally I was able to tone it down with a whitewash. We both love it and I have gotten so many compliments! It really took it from "hurl-worthy" to "kinda queasy but I should be ok if you open a window." Of course, I would have rather slapped white paint on the whole darn thing but poor Jim and my mom would have apoplexy. Ppppaint bbbbrick?  Crazy Talk. Next thing you know I'll be painting counter tops. Um, wait for it...

Anyway, here are some before/afters:
