Powder Room Reveal: Vintage Schoolhouse Chalkboard

Share It:

I have been working on this powder room reveal since we moved into this house. It was one of the first rooms we tackled and I am so glad to say it is done. Or mostly. Because are we ever really done?  We went with a very subtle vintage schoolhouse theme since we wanted to use beadboard and chalkboard paint.

If you remember, we started out looking like this:

Tired old wall paper, dingy fixtures, wicker mirror, and a bizarre mix of plant hangers as a window treatment.  Still have the light fixture if you want me to give it away to one lucky reader!  HA HA HA!

We tackled the redecorating and powder room reveal in 3 phases.

Phase 1:  Remove wallpaper. You can see how we did it HERE.  It was a sucky sucky job since the paper was 40 years old. The wallpaper paste was like dried cement and so hard to remove. But we did it!

Phase 2: Install beadboard and paint.

Phase 3: Install new light fixture, hardware, mirror, and decorate. And finally, the powder room reveal!

I would have loved to have switched out the vanity but the previous owners tiled around it instead of under it so for now it stays.  But it's fine for now and overall I think it is a huge improvement!

Beadboard: Lowes
Mirror: Homegoods
Light Fixture: Amazon.com

  2. Love your re-do!! Wondering where you found the light above the vanity? I have been looking for something similar and can`t find double one.

  3. I love this. I wish my bathrooms weren't tiled in 1950's colors - green yellow and blue. Would love to do something like this! Beautiful. :)

  8. What kind of beadboard did you use? We are planning on covering some 1950's plastic tile in the powder room with beadboard. The PVC product looks interesting but I don't know how it will look IRL.
