Fourth of July Pillowcase Dress

Share It:
I hope you are all enjoying your Independence Day!  Did you grill something?  My sister had us over and my brother-in-law grilled kebobs and my niece made an awesome orzo side dish.  The dogs ran around, the kids played, and now Jim and Molly are at our town's fireworks. Such a great day!

So about 10 years ago I was in a shwanky fabric store and I found a big folded up wad of a high quality navy cotton fabric which had small ivory stars on it.  I always meant to sew it into a patriotic table cloth with some red and white accents but never got around to it. I pulled it out the other day and realized there was way too much for just a table cloth. So I used the pillowcase dress tutorials on The Mother Hubbard and stitched up two of them for the girls to wear today!  They looked so so cute.

Of course I couldn't get them to stand still long enough to take a picture together. But they are mostly the same except for the trim work. Molly has two plain ruffles on the bottom, one red and one white, and I topped it off with red grosgrain ribbon. Ellie's has a white eyelet ruffle topped off with some large red ric-rac.  I used the leftover ric-rac and some thin elastic to make matching headbands too.

I never get tired of patriotic projects and I've been enjoying seeing all of y'alls, too!  God Bless America!

Cheers,
Jenny
